Brodie Joins Hometown Heed

Gateshead have announced the signing of striker Richard Brodie on a one year deal after he was released by League One side Crawley Town. The prolific frontman has joined his hometown club, after having a trial with Hartlepool United. Brodie’s move to Crawley made headlines in 2010, as the reported £275,000 transfer from York was a record deal between two non league clubs.

He helped Crawley win the Conference in 2011, and then repeated the feat with Fleetwood Town the following year after spending the season on loan at Highbury. It was at York City where he made his name, scoring sixty nine goals in a hundred and sixty five games during his five seasons at Bootham Crescent. He has gone off the boil a little bit since leaving Crawley, but that could be down to the fact that he was loaned out to three clubs in two seasons. Once he is settled back in his native northeast, the goals will surely flow once more, as The Heed try and improve on 2012-13’s seventeenth placed finish.

Bucks Sign Two

New AFC Telford manager Liam Watson

New AFC Telford manager Liam Watson

New AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson has made two signings following his own arrival at New Bucks Head last week. Both new faces come from Watson’s former club Southport. Simon Grand and Sean Clancy have followed their gaffer to Shropshire, and will form the backbone of the new look Bucks, relegated this season from the Conference Premier.

Clancy, who can play as a left back or on the left wing, moved on the same day as Watson after not extending his Southport contract. He had only been with The Sandgrounders since February, but has chosen to join his old boss as he tries to get Telford back into the Premier at the first time of asking.

Simon Grand was the Southport skipper, and joins exactly seven days after Watson’s appointment. The solid central defender will no doubt become skipper at his new club, and he has plenty of experience, including Football League campaigns with Rochdale, Carlisle United, Grimsby Town, Morecambe, and Aldershot.

With signings of this quality, Watson is certainly wasting no time in assembling a squad capable of challenging for the Conference North title.
