Hayes & Yeading Appoint Babb

Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland defender Phil Babb has landed his first job in management, after being appointed by Hayes & Yeading United. Babb replaces Nas Bashir, who left the club “by mutual consent” in February. The club had been under the temporary stewardship of coaches Tristan Lewis and Delroy Preddie. The pair will stay on and assist the new manager.

Speaking to the BBC, Babb said: “I’m really excited to use my years of experience, plus the knowledge of non-league and lower league football I have gained in recent years. I recognise the potential here and I believe we can build a successful club and nurture some great young talent.”

While Babb has never played non league football before, he has been watching lots of games, so it will be interesting to see whether he can emulate some other ex-league players who have done well in non league management. Justin Edingburgh and Dean Saunders have both worked their way up through the semi-professional ranks recently. Can Babb be the next?
