Step 1-4 Allocations Announced

The setup for the Conference, Isthmian, Southern and Northern Premier Leagues have been announced, with some tough decisions to be made. Clubs have had to be reallocated due to non-promotions from some leagues, and clubs voluntarily relegating themselves due to costs. The Step 3 divisions will be expanded to twenty four teams from the traditional twenty two, along with the Isthmian Division One South and North leagues. This has obviously added to the headaches. Of course, the various league AGM’s could see changes to the league lineups, but we will find out about any subsequent changes in due course.

One club that will certainly be happy with the Association’s announcement will be Bishop’s Stortford. The Hertfordshire club have played in Conference North for the last two seasons, but have been placed back into the South for next season. Meanwhile, Fleet Town, Godlaming Town and Guildford City have been switched from Southern League Division One Central to the South & West section. The Isthmian League premier Division has a decidedly Essex feel to it, with AFC Hornchurch, Grays Athletic and Billericay Town joining both Thurrock clubs and Canvey Island in 2013-14.

Guernsey FC continue their incredible story by being placed into the Isthmian League Division One South following their epic finish to the season. The Green Lions won four games in four days over the May Day weekend to earn themselves one of the best runners-up promotion spots from Step 5. There are also five teams making their debuts in Conference North or South next season: Concord Rangers, Gosport Borough, Leamington, North Ferriby United and Whitehawk FC (who will rebrand as Brighton City next term).

About James Bartaby

Hey, I'm James and I'm relatively new to non-league football, having only taken in my first match in September 2011. Despite it being a 0-4 defeat for Hampton & Richmond Borough, I became a huge fan of the club and NL in general. So much so that they are now the first club that I mention when talking about which team I support! I just got massively disillusioned with top flight football in this country and the attitudes of the lawmakers and top clubs in general, and I wanted to start taking my son to see decent football. I am now the club's Deputy Press Officer, and loving every minute!
