Join In Under The League’s New Competition!

Under The League is launching a fun little competition for the new season. Join in!

One of my favourite things about going to non-league matches, other than the football on display, is counting how many times the match ball leaves the ground during the ninety minutes. With this in mind, I thought I would start a fun competition to see which ground has the most escapee balls!

  1. To count, the ball must clear the roof of the stand, and not roll back down the roof into the arena. Therefore, it must require rescue by a club official to count,
  2. Keep counting at every match – the winner will be determined by the average amount of times per game that the ball leaves the ground, and there will be a minimum number of games to qualify, so keep counting and entering!
  3. Honesty is key – don’t make it up, it’s only a bit of fun after all!

That’s it. To enter, leave a comment on this article, email or tweet @undertheleague

Happy counting, and good luck!

About James Bartaby

Hey, I'm James and I'm relatively new to non-league football, having only taken in my first match in September 2011. Despite it being a 0-4 defeat for Hampton & Richmond Borough, I became a huge fan of the club and NL in general. So much so that they are now the first club that I mention when talking about which team I support! I just got massively disillusioned with top flight football in this country and the attitudes of the lawmakers and top clubs in general, and I wanted to start taking my son to see decent football. I am now the club's Deputy Press Officer, and loving every minute!
