How’s This For Fixture Congestion!

If you think your club has a lot of fixtures to play, I’m pretty sure they’re not as bad as Norton United’s!

North West Counties club Norton United have to play an incredible ELEVEN matches in SIXTEEN days at the ned of this season! The run started on Saturday, April 14th with a 2-2 draw against Rochdale Town. They then face fixtures on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Monday, with the run ending on Monday, April 30th! And if they can overturn a 2-1 deficit in the second leg of the League Challenge Cup Semi Finalm they will have another match on the 2nd or 3rd of May!

Here’s the incredible fixture list in full:

April 14th, NWCFL: Norton United 2-2 Rochdale

April 16th, Staffordshire F.A. Vase Final: Norton United 2-3 Redgate Clayton

April 18th, NWCFL: Cheadle Town 1-1 Norton United

April 19th, NWCFL: Norton United 3-2 Atherton Collieries

April 21st, LCC SF 2nd leg: Maine Road 2-0 (4-1agg) Norton United

April 23rd, NWCFL: Abbey Hey 0-4 Norton United

April 24th, NWCFL: Formby 1-0 Norton United

April 25th, NWCFL: Eccleshall 0-1 Norton United*

April 26th, NWCFL: Ashton Town 0-6 Norton United**

April 28th, NWCFL: Norton United 3-0 Irlam

April 30th, NWCFL: Nelson 1-3 Norton United***

Quite a ridiculous situation, I’m sure you’ll agree! Norton are currently second in the North West Counties First Division, with FIVE games in hand. I think they deserve promotion after this run!

* Match played on Friday, 4th May.

** Match played Wednesday, 2nd May.

*** Match played on Thursday, 3rd May.

Now that Norton have finally finished their league campaign, they finished second, just one point behind Wigan Robin Park.

About James Bartaby

Hey, I'm James and I'm relatively new to non-league football, having only taken in my first match in September 2011. Despite it being a 0-4 defeat for Hampton & Richmond Borough, I became a huge fan of the club and NL in general. So much so that they are now the first club that I mention when talking about which team I support! I just got massively disillusioned with top flight football in this country and the attitudes of the lawmakers and top clubs in general, and I wanted to start taking my son to see decent football. I am now the club's Deputy Press Officer, and loving every minute!
