Hall Road Rangers Lose Sixth Game In Eight

Hall Road Rangers slumped to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liversedge on Saturday, in what was a somewhat flattering scoreline for the West Yorkshire outfit on a blustery afternoon. Rangers conceded two goals in each half to drop down to 13th in the NCEL Premier Division, and boss Martin Thacker lamented his players’ performance.

“The least I expect off my players is for them to bust a gut for 90 minutes and stay in as many football matches as you can”, he said.
“When we lost four on the bounce earlier in the season, we stayed in every game and maybe should have got something out of most of them. Today, apart from the first 15 minutes, we deserved to get nothing.”

The first 15 minutes did indeed look promising for Rangers, who went close in the opening stages through James McGarry and Michael Gregory. However, with 11 minutes on the clock, Liversedge left back Jerome White scored a freak opener, when his cross from the left touchline evaded James Fossdyke and ended up nestled in the far side of the net. Sedge doubled their lead shortly after when skipper Darryl Leach steered home a ball into the box.

Rangers barely threatened the home ‘keeper, James Waggett, with the conditions making it difficult for them to get the ball under any kind of control. Liversedge made it 3-0 after the break through Scott Driscoll, before Alex Hallam added a fourth inside the last 10 minutes.

Thacker concluded on what was an overall grim afternoon for his side, despite showing signs of promise early on. “In the first 15 minutes, you would have thought we were a top of the league team, but we didn’t get that goal. Then they scored a freak cross, which just turned the game on its head. When you press and chase games in the second half, you’re going to be so open, and that’s what happened to us.”

Hall Road’s next fixture is at Dene Park, with Barton Town Old Boys set to make the short trip over the Humber Bridge on Saturday.

HALL ROAD: James Fossdyke, Grant Normington (Ricky Foster, 72), Mike Bettney, Dave Ricardo, Jamie Waltham, Michael Gregory, Mark Griffin, Martin Thacker (Tim Taylor, 77), James McGarry, Joe Cooper (Richard Gibson, 59), Paul Wilson. Subs not used: None.

About James Bartaby

Hey, I'm James and I'm relatively new to non-league football, having only taken in my first match in September 2011. Despite it being a 0-4 defeat for Hampton & Richmond Borough, I became a huge fan of the club and NL in general. So much so that they are now the first club that I mention when talking about which team I support! I just got massively disillusioned with top flight football in this country and the attitudes of the lawmakers and top clubs in general, and I wanted to start taking my son to see decent football. I am now the club's Deputy Press Officer, and loving every minute!
