The FA Vase has now reached the third round, and I thought it was about time we picked a club to follow through the tournament. And so, the decision has been made, and Hanworth Villa are that club. There are a couple of reasons for this: they are just down the road from where I live, and my neighbour supports them! OK, OK, I know that I should maybe have been more neutral in my choice, but it’s my neighbour that supports them, not me!
Anyway, “The Villans” have been handed a home tie with Kent League Premier Division leaders Herne Bay, which will be played on Saturday December 3rd. Both clubs are in level nine of the English game, and are both doing really well in their respective leagues. While Herne Bay are leading the way in their division, Hanworth Villa currently lie in fifth position in the Combined Counties Premier Division, eight points off the top. That could change this weekend, though, as they host second-bottom Chessington & Hook. Herne Bay, meanwhile, have a tough looking trip to sixth placed Fisher.
Although they are by far the best supported club in their division, there has been some upheaval recently at Herne Bay. Their main sponsors have pulled out of the club with immediate effect, and the chairman, whose company it was who were the sponsors, has also stepped down, again with immediate effect.
Both clubs have strikers in good form, with Lawrie Shennan and Levi King both into double figures for Hanworth, while Herne Bay boast their division’s second top scorer in Darren Marsden.
In truth, Herne Bay are probably favourites, but here’s hoping we’ve picked a good team to follow on the site!
